When I was a kid in Portage, we played in the orchards, picked wild strawberries and blueberries and swam in Portage Creek. I saw my first yo-yo on the playground at Waylee Elementary and watched Walter Cronkite talk to John Glenn from the all-purpose room at Amberly Elementary. When I opened Portage Printing in 1986, the Portage Plaza was just about the only thing in the whole city that I could still recognize from my childhood.
